ADAS is proud to be a platinum sponsor for the British Society of Soil Science’s upcoming Soil Judging Competition in Nottinghamshire, due to take place 8-10 July 2025.

This event will encourage aspiring soil scientists to apply their knowledge of soils to describe and classify a soil profile to the best of their ability.

The event will take place over three days. The first two days will consist of classroom workshop training and in-field soil pit practicals with coaching by professional soil scientists. No prior knowledge is necessary. Resources and equipment will be provided.

The final day will be a friendly competition to accurately describe two soil pits within a time limit – one as an individual and one as part of a team. The competition will be followed by a networking dinner.

This event will empower early career soil enthusiasts to hone their skills in describing and classifying soil profiles. It also offers participants a unique chance to meet and learn from other soil scientists, professionals and researchers.

BASIS points are also available for taking part.

BSSS Early Career members are encouraged to enter. If you would like to take part but are not yet a BSSS member, please check out the BSSS website or email the BSSS team at admin@soils.org.uk.
