We are delighted to announce that ADAS will be hosting a webinar for the RAMIRAN Network at 10 am (BST) on Tuesday 15 September 2020.

The RAMIRAN Network (Research Network on Recycling Agricultural and Industrial Residues in Agriculture) was set up over 20 years ago. The network brings together researchers, policymakers and practitioners mainly from Europe but increasingly from the Far East, New Zealand and North and South America to address issues relating to organic material management.

The webinar will include presentations from internationally recognised scientists widely experienced in the utilisation of organic materials and their impact on air, water and soil:

  • Dr Zhaohai Bai Assistant Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing
  • Dr Karl Richards Head of Crops and Environment and Land Use at Teagasc, Ireland
  • Dr Anne Bhogal Principal Soil Scientist at ADAS Gleadthorpe
  • Professor Dave Chadwick University of Bangor

ADAS Head of Soils and Nutrients John Williams said: “Organic materials are valuable sources of plant-available nutrients and organic matter, however, there are significant challenges to their use in agricultural systems. The need to reduce ammonia emissions, improve water quality and the ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions has increased the focus on the management of organic materials. This webinar will provide an excellent platform to highlight the issues and describe practices to maximise nutrient use efficiency, minimise losses to the environment and maximize the soil carbon benefits’.
