New Carbon Budget outlines the UK’s pathway to Net Zero

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) submitted its Sixth Carbon Budget advice to the UK government on 9 December 2020. A carbon budget is a cap on the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted in the UK over a five-year period.

On the 26th February 2020, the Environment Bill 2019-2020 passed its second reading in a debate opened by Secretary of State for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs, The Rt. Hon. George Eustice. This follows the Bill’s first reading, which went ahead without debate, on the 30th January 2020.

On the 11th February 2020, the Agriculture Bill 2019-2020 began its Committee Debate, following the 2nd Reading on the 3rd February, and its 1st Reading on the 16th January. With the UK now having departed the EU, the pressure has intensified to introduce new regulatory frameworks for agriculture.
