ADAS was commissioned by Alexander & Angell Ltd to undertake a Landscape and Visual Appraisal (LVA) of a site at Court Farm for the development of a poultry unit within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Green Belt.

The site is located within the Cotswolds AONB, an area of high landscape value with two long distance footpaths located on elevated ground surrounding the farm. The Landscape and Visual Appraisal supported a planning application for the replacement of four poultry houses with two larger ones on the site.


Despite the constraints, the assessment found that the proposed development would have no significant effect on existing landscape features and landscape character. The Landscape Strategy identified key opportunities to mitigate landscape and visual effects, enhance landscape character and promote biodiversity.

Key proposals included establishing a mixed native species hedgerow with hedgerow trees along a local footpath west of the site, planting a belt of mixed tree and scrub along the north-western side of the existing poultry houses and extending the block of woodland south-east of the site.

Advice was also given for suitable colouring of the roof and sides of the buildings to ensure that they blended in with the surroundings and do not stand out in elevated views. The development successfully gained planning permission in 2016.
