As part of our service, we offer free initial site screening so we can assess the feasibility of your project at no cost.

The types of archaeological surveys we offer include:

  • Aerial surveys
  • Desk based assessments
  • Historic building surveys
  • Geophysical surveys

Our archaeology experts can advise on the most effective technique to use for the ground conditions on your development site. Our surveys are completed in accordance with Historic England and Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Standards and Guidance.

Surveys we offer

We can provide aerial surveys and innovative geomatic solutions using:

  • UAV (drone)
  • helicopter
  • LiDAR
  • Digital Terrain Models (DTM)
  • fixed wing surveys

These surveys are very effective in identifying archaeology in the form of cropmarks or earthworks. They are also used for carrying out condition surveys of historic buildings and archaeological sites.

Geophysical surveys are a non-intrusive method of evaluation which can help determine the archaeological potential of a development site.

They are usually requested by the local authority during the planning process as part of a staged programme of evaluation.

We can advise on the most effective technique to use for the ground conditions on your development site.

Historic building surveys provide an accurate record of the existing structural remains and historical uses of a building. They are often required before any demolition or alteration.
If historic building recording is a condition of planning approval, our team can advise on the level of recording. We will then carry out the survey and provide a report to fulfill requirements.

With a walk-over survey, our archaeologists will visit the site to try and identify any archeological features. These surveys are non-intrusive and will assess the character, condition and location of any features.

After a desk-based assessment, we often conduct walk over surveys to identify any known archaeological features. We will assess any features found in the desk-based assessment and record any new features discovered on site.
