Crop nutrition research trials
Scientific research to investigate and improve crop nutrient efficiency
The ADAS crop physiology team partners with governments, levy boards, industry leaders and farmers to drive improvements in crop yields and nutrient recycling. Through our research initiatives, we collaborate with farms to deliver actionable insights that boost farm productivity while reducing the environmental impact.
Our team’s understanding of the chemistry, physics and biology underpinning crop production enables us to uncover new ways to optimise production.
Our research areas
- Nutrient use efficiency by aligning market demands with farming system design
- Crop and variety selection to suit rotation plans and growing conditions
- Application techniques, including precision methods and monitoring practices
- Farm nutrient monitoring to ensure balanced and sustainable nutrient use
Developing new approaches to nutrient management
Our research goal is to help clients in developing innovative approaches for smarter, more sustainable farming, including
- optimised application scheduling and foliar feeding to improve crop structure, yield and quality
- soil and yield mapping combined with precision fertiliser application
- integrated nutrient strategies using manufactured fertilisers, organic inputs, inhibitors and controlled-release technologies
- combined soil and crop monitoring to maintain accurate farm nutrient balances.
For nutrient-related disorders, we can also help with diagnoses and treatment recommendations. We advise on ways to recycle nutrients, and we can work with supply chains to optimise the sourcing and tracing of nutrients in foods.
