Japanese Knotweed mitigation measures
Background
Morgan Sindall has been contracted by Transport for London to construct multiple signal equipment rooms across its London Underground portfolio, including at Parsons Green, which required a new signal equipment room and a new emergency speed reduction facility. The work involved constructing a new building on existing sidings close to Parsons Green Tube Station to house the new facilities.
Owing to the steep slope, Morgan Sindall designed a piled solution to provide a stable base for the new facility. Initial surveys carried out by London Underground identified Japanese knotweed within the footprint of the construction work.
Actions taken
- Supplied and installed Netlon fencing around the perimeter of all the existing Japanese knotweed stands
- Put a herbicide treatment regime in place for the duration of the construction work to prevent the spread of Japanese knotweed
- Cleared vegetation along the proposed construction access and egress routes
- Installed ground protection matting to facilitate pedestrian access and egress to ground monitoring stations.
